Growing a Devon Flower Farm
Growing a Devon Flower Farm: Developing Our Drewsteignton Smallholding
We’re excited to share the next step for Beyond Bloom: developing our Devon flower farm on a smallholding in Drewsteignton, Dartmoor. This fulfils a long-held ambition — to grow flowers thoughtfully, closely connected to the land that inspires us.
Our small flower farm deepens our commitment to seasonal growing, sustainability, and local floristry. We focus on character, seasonality, and care—not volume or uniformity.
A Smallholding Designed for Flower Production
We’re developing our Devon smallholding to support small-scale flower production.
The first phase includes:
- Six flower beds, prepared and planted with the health of the soil as the priority
- Two greenhouses to raise plants from seed and extend the growing season
- A water harvesting system, capturing rainwater to reduce reliance on the mains supply and support more sustainable flower farming
We’ll initially produce a curated selection of flowers (to be announced soon), chosen for their suitability to the land, natural beauty, and role in seasonal floristry. As a Devon cut flower grower, our aim is to work with nature rather than against it.
A Landscape That Shapes the Flowers
The land itself is as important as what we grow. Alongside the production areas, the smallholding includes a small meadow, areas of woodland with oak, ash, beech, willow, and hawthorn, and a wild wetland fed by two natural wells. An idyllic stream borders the plot, supporting biodiversity and creating a landscape that feels calm, alive, and gently untamed.
This diversity not only enriches the land but also informs our approach as a Dartmoor flower farm, where flowers are grown within a living ecosystem rather than a controlled monoculture.
From Flower Field to Floristry Studio
At the heart of the smallholding is a 50-foot barn, soon partly converted into a new floristry studio. This space will be Beyond Bloom’s creative centre—where flowers grown nearby are conditioned, arranged, and prepared for delivery.
By bringing growing and arranging together in one place, we reduce transport, maintain freshness, and strengthen the connection between the field and the finished arrangement. It’s a natural extension of our belief in locally grown flowers in Devon, gathered and arranged with intention.
Growing Slowly, Growing Well
Developing this Devon flower farm reaffirms Beyond Bloom’s values. Working on a smallholding lets us grow with the seasons, support local ecology, and create floral work grounded in place.
As beds are planted, greenhouses fill, and the studio takes shape, we’ll share more of this journey. We’re excited to let the land guide what and how we grow, bringing Drewsteignton flowers to homes across Devon.
As our Devon flower farm develops, our flowers will increasingly feature in our seasonal arrangements and subscriptions, grown just a few miles from where they’re enjoyed.
